Metrowagonmash and Budapest Metro have entered into the Contract on Overhauls of 222 carriages
General Manager of Metrowagonmash (Mytischi, belongs to Transmashholding Group) Andrey Andreyev and President and General Manager of Budapest Transport Company (BKV) Tibor Bolla have signed the Contract in accordance with which the Russian entity undertakes to perform overhaul and modernization of 222 cars owned by the Budapest Metro.
Under the above Contract 185 cars of 81-717/714 model, 10 cars of 81-717/714-2M and 27 Ev3 cars put into operation since 1970 will undergo in-depth modernization.
The project has to be implemented within 34 months and the first carriages will be delivered to the customer in 265 days. The work will be performed at Metrowagonmash facilities.
Passenger compartments, cabins and control desks will be fully refurbished, interiors will be updated. Head carriage masks and bogies will be replaced and the carbody will be revamped. Train control systems, video surveillance and safety systems will be modernized. HVAC in the driver’s cabins and forced air cooling in the passenger compartments will be installed. Compressor systems, braking equipment and traction systems will be upgraded. Electric door drive mechanisms are expected to be installed. Depending on diagnostics results other necessary overhaul work is also planned.
After the above upgrading equipment reliability and maintainability level will be considerably improved. Power consumption will be reduced, modern aesthetic characteristics will be provided and a passenger comfort level and working environment for drivers will be improved. The lifespan of the metros will be extended by 25 years.
The Contract has been signed following the results of the tender declared by BKV in November 2014. On July 8, 2015 Metrowagonmash was awarded the contract. Apart from Metrowagonwash, French Alstom Transport SA, Czech Skoda Transportation a.s., Estonian Skinest Rail a.s., Spanish Сonstrucciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles S.A. (CAF), as well as a Rumanian company and a Hungarian one have participated in the tender. “We are proud that the Budapest Metro has chosen us of all others”, A.Andreyev said after a contract signing ceremony. “I would like to assure you again that Metrowagonmash will provide for an excellent execution of the Contract signed today”.
