Escort Railcar Delivery Contract is Executed by TVZ
Tver Carriage Works (TVZ, an entity of Transmashholding) has fulfilled the one-year delivery contract for special-purpose train escorting cars.
A total of 47 escort railcars have been manufactured and supplied to Roszheldorsnab (division of Russian Railways that specializing in purchases of goods and equipment for Railways) from May through September this year.
The escort railcars developed by TVZ represent for Russia a highly-specialized rolling stock. Such type of cars had not been designed or manufactured in Russia and CIS countries before 2011, as ordinary time-expired passenger coaches were rebuilt for these purposes instead. The first prototype of a special-purpose car for track crews was created in 2011 by TVZ engineers in close cooperation with concerned departments of Russian Railways (RZD). Their efforts resulted in car design that fully answered the needs of railwaymen. From 2011 through 2015, Railways purchased 139 railcars that were highly appreciated during operation.
The cars are integrated into freight or maintenance trains and used as work and accommodation place of maintenance-of-way crews. The car offers comfortable conditions of work and relaxation to crew members. It is equipped with a sleeping compartment, a shower room with water heating system, a toilet, a stockroom, clothes drying rack, and a workshop. The car galley is fitted with modern appliances. Onboard diesel genset ensures autonomous power supply for car auxiliary consumers. The car is also equipped with an air conditioner and a boiler with autonomous diesel burner allowing its operation in all climatic zones of Russia.
In 2015, the escort railcars were put on display for the second time at the International EXPO-1520 Fair in Shcherbinka and attracted interest of potential customers representing 1520 territory railway operators.
