TVZ produced 50 new cars for Russian Post

During the course of a ceremony, Tver Carriage Works (TVZ, part of JSC Transmashholding) delivered new baggage-and-mail cars to Federal State Unitary Enterprise Russian Post.

The ceremony was attended by vice-chairman of the lower house of the Russian parliament Vladimir Vassilyev, governor of Tver region Andrey Shevelev, chairman of Tver region Legislative Assembly Andrey Epishin, mayor of Tver Alexandr Korzin, department head of rolling stock division of JSC Federal Passenger Company Andrey Shinkaruk, deputy general director of FSUE Russian Post Alexey Skatin.

The contract for supply of 50 Type 61-4504 cars (with a freight section only) and Type 61-4505 cars (equipped with a staff area) was signed in the late October this year. The government of Russia committed the funds to Russian Post rolling stock renewal in the framework of state support for the car-building industry.

“With the orders for cars for Russian Post and MIA placed with TVZ in consequence of state support, we could provide for additional capacity utilization”, stated Andrey Solovey, general director of TVZ. “Further, we were enabled to preserve to the maximum the staff and the competence which is important on a national scale – passenger car-building”.

Baggage-and-mail cars are new products for Tver Carriage Works. In the course of the development, preferences of prospective customers were considered, who are interested in freight traffic increase and at the same time in operational cost reduction and customer service improvement.

The car payload is increased: in Type 61-4504 car it was 35 tons, and in Type 61-4505 – 25.2 tons, which is by 3.2 tons more than the hauling ability of mail cars operated at present.

Cars manufactured in Tver have one more specialty – they are equipped with the integrated monitoring system. The baggage-and-mail cars are designed with the maximum use of domestic components. The design speed is 160 km/h, which allows integrating these cars into luggage-and-mail and passenger train sets.

“Russian Post delivers over 50% of the total mail volume by railway. Together with China Post we implement a joint project aimed at development of transboundary parcel transportation, and we plan to enter the post transit market in future”, the Russian Post deputy general director on logistics Alexey Skatin said. “The transportation fleet of Russian Post numbers over 800 cars and we renew it on regular basis to provide for good timing and high quality of the mail delivery. We give high rating to the technological level of the mail cars developed by Tver Carriage Works and are confident that their performance enables us to further enhance mail service quality for the population”.

When Andrey Solovey handed over the symbolical key for new mail cars to top management of Russian Post, he underlined that Tver Carriage Works is interested in further cooperation and is ready to deliver cars in any numbers required by customers.
