Representatives of authorities and suburban passenger service companies of Russia could asses new EP2D EMU

The new DC EMU, EP2D was presented to representatives of suburban passenger service companies, federal and regional authorities who are interested in further passenger service improvement.

The presentation took place on the Test Loop of JSC Railway Research Institute at Shcherbinka station (Moscow region).

The new EP2D EMU is developed by Demikhovsky Engineering Plant in compliance with the Technical Regulations of the Customs Union of Russia, Byelorussia, Kazakhstan, Kirgizia, Armenia, and Tajikistan.

Design engineers of DMZ have developed effectively new EMU platform thus making it possible to elaborate adaptations for operation on routes with both high and low traffic. For the first time in CIS countries, EMU can consist of 2 to 3 and up to 12 cars. It provides for an enhanced suitability for operation on any lines including those with minimum traffic. Various interior solutions and wide range of suppliers are applied to create unique trains, which satisfy the carriers’ needs to the maximum. This EMU can be operated at temperatures of +50°C to -50°C. It is meant for operation on lines both with low and high station platforms.

The new EMU is distinguished by comfort and safety. Due to use of the most advanced technical solutions, operational costs can be reduced. The train is fitted with the passive restraint system (crash protection system), controlled environment system with an air disinfection function, passenger information system. Energy-efficient equipment set is applied allowing to save 20% of energy; there is a powerful auxiliary static converter, which helps to reduce the noise and vibration levels in passenger saloons. The upgraded cabin design with a removable ladder prevents unauthorized access of intruders to the cab front and to the roof.

The most design elements are manufactured in Russia to avoid the risks inherent in changes in currency exchange rate or embargo from foreign suppliers. The local content amounts to 80% and more; during the current year, in it will come near to 100%.
