NEVZ delivered to MMK new modification industrial e-loco

Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Building Plant (NEVZ, an entity of Transmashholding) has delivered to the Russia’s largest Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK) NPM2M industrial locomotive No 14.

Class NPM2M locomotive is an upgraded version of class NPM2 industrial e-locomotive. The major changes have affected electronic assemblies that received a new element base, including intelligent drivers with built-in short-circuit and surge voltage protection, as well as power-failure control. Moreover, locomotive has got more reliable (as compared with previous version) 4500V high-power transistors of 45th class with 30% higher safe operating area.

The design integrates efficient controllers that handle signals arriving from driver’s desk and other sensors and control transistors, drivers and other traction system elements; and external faults high-speed protection panel. The system performs on-line temperature monitoring of transistors air coolers, the data are displayed and have an immediate effect on the control system. All above introductions allowed essential eliminating of power electronic elements failures. The locomotive also features a newly integrated backup locomotive con-trol unit. At customer’s request, both body hoods are demountable, thus facilitating a lot scheduled and re-pair operations.

The upgrading of traction drive and control system enhances significantly locomotive reliability figures and makes locomotive operation more convenient.
