BMZ delivered the 100th 2TE25KM locomotive to Russian Railways

Late April, Bryansk Engineering Plant (AO UK BMZ, part of JSC Transmashholding) delivered 2TE25KM mainline freight diesel locomotive under the serial No. 100 to the Russian railways.

During 2016, JSC RZD is going to purchase 100 diesel locomotives of this series. 2TE25KM is a mainline freight two-section locomotive with AC-DC electric transmission and axle traction control. 90% of components used in the locomotive design are of domestic production. As compared with mass-production locomotives, 2TE25KM provides for increase in weight of hauled freight train sets by 20% on average as well as for reduction in operational costs. This is achieved due to the improved engine capacity factor.

One of key advantages of the new diesel locomotive is its simplicity and ease of maintenance due to easily accessible and workable main assemblies. The transition to use of new locomotives helps to reduce fleet maintenance and repair costs.

Within the shortest possible time, Transmashholding implemented the project on high-volume output of advanced 2TE25KM mainline diesel locomotives at BMZ. The first locomotive was introduced to the media in 2015, and the plant delivered the 100th locomotive of this type one year later. Before, there was no experience of high-volume output of mainline diesel locomotives in Russia.
