NEVZ сelebrates the 80th anniversary


At Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant (NEVZ, part of JSC Transmashholding), festive events take place dedicated to the plant’s 80th anniversary. Kirill Lipa, Transmashholding CEO, Vasiliy Golubev, Rostov Oblast Governor, Oleg Valinskiy, JSC Russian Railways VP, and representatives of many other plant suppliers and customers arrived to participate in the celebration. 

Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant was founded in 1936 as a steam-locomotive building factory; it started to produce electric locomotives after the end of the Great Patriotic War. Over the years of the plant existence, locomotive builders of Novocherkassk developed 67 types and manufactured approximately 17 thousand electric locomotives of various applications in total. Locomotives built at NEVZ haul trains carrying 80% of all freights by electrified lines in Russia and CIS countries. 

In 2004, NEVZ was integrated into Transmashholding. Upon having joined the largest transport engineering company in Russia, the plant drastically extended its range of products and quickly increased production output. Whereas in 2006 the plant manufactured locomotives only of 3 models (only one of them was designed for railway service), 8 different types of electric locomotives were produced by 2010. After a lapse of 20 years, DC electric locomotives production resumed.

The plant is deeply involved in implementation of import phase-out programs; it builds up manufacturing facilities to produce traction motors and generators for diesel locomotives. The total value of NEVZ investments programs over the last decade equals RUR 12.5 billion. The plant manufactured 2013 electric locomotives (3952 locomotive sections) of 13 different modifications during this period of time. al-voltage electric passenger locomotives and mainline electric freight locomotives with asynchronous traction drives.
