The Oktyabrsky Electrical Coaches Maintenance Plant is celebrating its 190th anniversary


On 30 September, 2016, the Oktyabrsky Electrical Coaches Maintenance Plant (part of CJSC "Transmashholding", one of the oldest factories in Saint Petersburg, is celebrating its 190th anniversary. For more than two centuries, the factory is a symbol of highly intellectual and industrial potential of the northern capital of Russia. 

The Oktyabrsky Electrical Coaches Maintenance Plant (OEVRZ) is a site specilizing in all types of maintenance and modernisation of passenger coaches and electrical trains, as well as the overhaul and construction of metro cars, tramways, and railbuses. The site covers an area of 42 Ha. 

Today the plant enjoys its own maintenance capacities for passenger and special coaches, workshops for EMUs maintenance, wheel pairs new assembly; wood works, wheels-bogies, electrical equipment, repairing-fitting, coaches painting, instrumental, testing workshops, warehousing facilities, mechanical transport and railway workshops. Moreover, OEVRZ possesses necessary means for implementing unique activities upon customers' special requirements (diner-lounge coaches, business-class coaches, special-type coaches and others). The site employs around 950 persons. 

In celebration of the plant's anniversary, its guests, Vice-Mayer of Saint Petersburg, Sergey Movchan, and other members of the city government visited the products of OEVRZ, notably, the metro cars type 81-722.1/723.1/724.1, designed exclusively for the Metropolitan subway of Saint Petersburg; the tramways modernized under the order of "Gorelectrotrans", and the passenger coaches of the Russian Railways undergoing an overhaul at the plant. 

Over the last years, the cooperation between OEVRZ and the administration of Saint Petersburg has been significantly strengthened. Under the cooperation agreement signed between the city and CJSC "Transmashholding", at the International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg in June 2015, OERVZ is implementing an investment project aiming at the industrialization of passenger rolling stock. 

The highlight of the celebration was the official inauguration of the new industrial complex with the surface of more than 15 000 sq.m. designated for the production of new passenger metro cars and tramways. The significant feature of the newly deployed facility is the use of flexible technologies that allow for its quick adaptation to new types of activities.
