NEVZ delivered the tenth NP1 traction unit to Karelskiy Okatysh mine

Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant (NEVZ, part of JSC Transmashholding) delivered NP1 No.76 traction unit to the Karelskiy Okatysh mine. This Russian company, which is No. 3 in Russia in terms of volumes of iron ore production and processing operations (20% of all Russian pellet manufacture) operates nine NP1 traction units so far. They are used on quarry tracks with the power system of single-phase 50 Hz alternating current with the catenary rated voltage of 10 kV. The traction unit is used for iron ore transportation and is designed to be operated at ambient temperatures from -50º up to +45º С (working limit values) and at up to 1200 m altitude.

12-axle AC traction unit of NP1 model consists of three traction sections: one electric locomotive section (E) and two motorized dumping cars (D). The locomotive carbody is with a middle driver’s cab designed with due view to current ergonomic and aesthetic requirements and equipped with HVAC system.

According to the information from the acting chief engineer of the railway administration of the Karelskiy Okatysh mine, S.V.Kabakov, NP1 traction units can haul trains consisting of 12 cars and weighing 115 t. They showed good results in full-time operation under rough quarry conditions with the limiting grade of 40‰ and heavy dustiness. NP1 is a state-of-the-art locomotive with the higher power and traction effort as compared with existing analogues.

NP1 traction unit is manufactured by NEVZ since 2004 and was a prize winner of the All-Russian All-Russian contest "100 best goods of Russia" in 2012. It is a substitution for industrial traction units of OPE1 series. It operates reliably at ore mining and processing enterprises and surface coal mines in Russia, Kazakhstan and Ukraine.
