St. Petersburg Metro and OEVRZ signed the supply contract for 40 metro cars

Oktyabrsky Electric Railway Car Repair Plant (OEVRZ, St.Petersburg, part of JSC Transmashholding) and St. Petersburg Metro signed the supply contract for metro cars with asynchronous traction drives.

Under the contract, OEVRZ is to supply 40 metro cars to St. Petersburg Metro SUE. The cost of rolling stock under the contract totaled to Rub. 3.8 billion. The delivery will take place from January to May 2018, the cars will be supplied by batches of 8 units per month.

It is expected that metro trains consisting of model 81-722.3/723.3/724.3 cars will be built for the customer: 10 head cars; 20 intermediate motorized and 10 intermediate non-motorized cars.

The advanced asynchronous traction drive will be used in the train design providing for up to 30% power economy as compared with the current metro fleet in operation.

The durability and resistance to various acts of vandalism inside the train will be provided by special materials capable of removing inscriptions and unauthorized advertising including on glazing and passenger couches. There are special areas with fixtures for wheelchairs.

Each passenger compartment will be equipped with the air cleaner and forced ventilation system with even airflow distribution.

The design includes electronic destination indicators installed on head cars, comfortable and user-friendly driver’s cabins fitted with HVAC and the vibration-absorbing seat.

Oktyabrsky Electric Railway Car Repair Plant started manufacturing metro cars in 2011. Over recent years, OVRZ is becoming the largest supplier of rolling stock for St.Petersburg Metro. In light of winning in the tender for supply of 40 cars to St. Petersburg Metro SUE, the pant works currently on four contracts, according to which the metro system in St.Petersburg will receive 428 new cars by the end of 2020.
