Pochta Rossii (Russian Post) and Transmashholding signed the Cooperation Agreement


Today within the frameworks of St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Dmitry Strashnov, General Director of the Russian Post and Kirill Lipa, CEO of JSC "Transmashholding signed an agreement in the area of development and supplies of the baggage and mail railway cars.

It is planned to use the cars both inside Russia and for arrangement of international mail transit from China to Europe via the Russian territory.

In accordance with the agreement, Transmashholding expresses its intention to keep improving the design and technical characteristics of cars based on the experience of their operation. The Russian Post in turn plans to purchase about 300 new cars in 2017-2019, in full compliance with the current legislation.

At present time, the Russian Post is studying different state-of-the-art rolling stock prototypes (both baggage and mail cars and high-speed container cars) in view of expanding its railway fleet. At the same time, Transmashholding is considered as the main possible car supplier, the products of which meet all modern requirements.

Railway transport is one of the most effective ones from the point of view of costs and reliability, as well. Presently, the share of railway mail transportations exceeds the 50% of the whole mail transportation volume. The Russian Post owns more than 800 cars and plans to increase railway transportations, not only nationally, but also in international routes. The plans are to arrange the direct railway mail communication Beijing - Moscow - Berlin by 2018-2019, for which purposes we will require about 75 state-of-the-art railway cars - stressed Mr. Dmitry Strashnov, General Director of the Russian Post.
