The rolling stock fleet of the Russian Post will receive 45 new cars produced by Tver Carriage Works

Tver Carriage Works (TVZ - forms part of JSC “Transmashholding”), VTB Leasing and the Russian Post have signed a trilateral agreement that provides the renovation of the fleet of cars used for mail transportation in Russia, as well as on international routes.

According to the agreement, Tver Carriage Works is to produce 45 baggage and mail railway cars and to deliver them to VTB Leasing company before the end of November this year, in order to transfer them further on to the Russian Post under the financial leasing in the framework of the won tender.

The new cars the production of which was mastered by Tver Carriage Works in 2014, are different from the analogues presented on the market due to their higher loading capacity and operational cost efficiency. The loading capacity is increased by up to 24 tons due to the carbody elongated by 1 metre, that is 2 tons higher than the carrying capacity of mail cars that are operating at the moment.

Each car is equipped with an integrated monitoring system which makes it possible to use a second car in a coupling without being accompanied by mobile workers, and thus, to provide a distant control over the technical state of the trailer car. The dual cars have been successfully operated by the Russian Post, and this line is going to develop further on, taking into account the advantages in the loading space. Design speed of baggage and mail cars is 160 km/h, which allows to use them with any high-speed passenger trains. The Russian Post already has 60 new cars produced by Tver Carriage Works that were purchased in 2015-2016.

“At the moment the Russian Post delivers over 50% of the packages by railway, and we are determined to continue ramping up the volume of deliveries with this means of transport, not only in Russia, but also on international routes. The railway deliveries are highly efficient from the point of view of costs, as well as in terms of speed and reliability. The Russia Post fleet has about 800 cars of its own. Currently, we are purchasing the most advanced cars available on the market supporting the domestic producer”, comments Nikolay Podguzov, general director of the Russian Post.

“Considering the market demands and our potential customers’ needs to the fullest extent possible, we constantly advance the produced machinery and extend its capabilities by applying cutting-edge technical solutions”, points out Andrey Solovey, general director of Tver Carriage Works.

Commenting the contract signature, Andrey Konoplev, general director of VTB Leasing, points out: “A huge number of people use the post service on a daily basis not only in Russia but also abroad. We participate in carrying out a socially important project while supporting the renovation programme of the rolling stock fleet of the Russian Post”.

The design of the cars delivered under the contract allows to run them with two types of bogies and to transport freights on the Russian railway infrastructure, as well as on Chinese railways, which extends significantly the geography of use of this particular rolling stock. The baggage and mail train that is to be delivered under the contract has been presented during the exposition of Transmashholding at the International Railway Salon EXPO 1520 that took place between 30th August and 2nd September in Scherbinka.
