Only upgraded Transmashholding trains operate on Line 3 of the Budapest Metro


OJSC Metrovagonmash (MVM, belongs to Transmashholding Group), fulfilling the order for the overhaul and modernization of the rolling stock, belonging to the Budapest Metro, has reached a major milestone on the way towards implementation of the project - now only upgraded cars operate on M3 metro line from April 3, 2018. 

The result was achieved through close and effective cooperation with the Budapest Metro and the Budapest Transport Company (BKV) - transport operator of the Hungarian capital. At the present time, BKV continues system reconstructing and radical updating of the M3 line. Part of the tracks and stations have scheduled repair, enabling to put only updated rolling stock into operation. 

A total of 37 train sets (222 metro cars) are subject to modernization under the contract between MVM and BKV. According to the schedule, the last one is expected to be put into operation in June 2018. Trains are subjected to multiple testing, with special attention paid to their quality, and rigorous adjusting before starting operation on line.  

Metrovagonmash in its work on the modernization of the rolling stock for the Budapest Metro implements the latest technical solutions and software products, thus making trains comfortable and safe for passengers and drivers. Trains’ reliability, energy efficiency, as well as their cost-effective maintenance and repair are significantly increased. 

 Denis Shilo, who is simultaneously head of the Technical Department of Transmashholding Urban Transport Development Division and project head for the trains’ modernization for Line3 notes: “The Budapest Metro is currently moving up to a brand new level. Modernization is a part of a common comprehensive programme, aimed at the problem solving. It is important for Metrovagonmash to take park in such a large-scale and socially significant project, within which we implement the most progressive innovative solutions, contribute to the further development of the Budapest transport system". 

Overhaul contract for Budapest-owned rolling stock was signed between MVM and BKV in August 2015 following a tender announced on July 8, 2014. On July 8, 2015 Metrovagonmash was announced its winner. Apart from MVM, French company Alstom Transport SA, Czech Skoda Transportation a.s., Estonia's Skinest Rail AS, Spanish manufacturer Сonstrucciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles S.A., as well as one Romanian and one Hungarian companies participated in the tender.
