Transmashholding to build 5 EP3D trains for Volga Vyatka suburban passenger company

Demikhovo Machine Building Plant (DMZ, belongs to JSC Transmashholding Group) signed an agreement with JSC Volga Vyatka suburban passenger company on delivery of five 4-coach EP3D AC EMUs.

The prepared agreement is the first experience of cooperation between the plant and the company.

EP3D is completely Russian design, consisting almost 100 percent of domestic components. Electric Multiple Units of this series were created in 2016 respecting the suggestions and comments of operating companies and passengers. The trains meet the most up-to-date international operational safety requirements for multiple units.

The EMU is distinguished by modern exterior design (smooth body, new front part). It is equipped with a pre-crash system, HVAC system with air conditioning and disinfection functions, information system, as well as environment friendly toilet modules. The design applies advanced technical solutions to make the journey safe and comfortable for all passengers, including disabled people. EP3D are equipped with lifters for wheelchairs, all information plates are duplicated with braille.

Owning cost of the new EP3D during the life cycle, which is 40 years, is therefore 20-50 percent lower, compared to the rolling stock of the previous series. Savings are achieved with a set of electrical equipment with low energy consumption and low-maintenance units (compressors, pantographs, low-voltage contractors, etc.).

The EP3D created by the order of Volga Vyatka suburban passenger company can be operated in multiple unit system. They provide access to high and low platforms. Head car will be equipped with four seater sofas (six seater in others); there will be route indicators on the windows as well. Handrails for standing passengers, as well as bicycle racks will be installed in head car saloons.

The EMUs are scheduled to be delivered to the customer in December 2018.

In addition, contract on delivery of EP3D EMUs was concluded in January 2018 with OAO Russian Railways. The contract provides for the construction of 22 four-coach and six-coach EMUs for the North Caucasus and the Privolzhskaya Railways. The deliveries of the trains have begun in February and are expected to be completed in October.
