Transmashholding received a certificate of compliance for Class TEP70BS with a two-wire power supply

The new-generation mainline passenger diesel locomotive TEP70BS by PJSC “Kolomensky Zavod” (part of JSC “Transmashholding”) received a certificate of compliance to technical regulations of the Customs Union for 5 years.

In its new iteration, TEP70BS can run in a double and is equipped with a two-wire power supply for passenger coaches. The new machine is designed for hauling double-decker rakes on non-electrified railroads. Moreover, it can be used as a traction unit for EMUs on non-electrified stretches of the track.

The two-wire power supply allows uninterrupted service of carriages without the use of track return circuit.

Two Class TEP70BS running in a double are able to develop 1,200 kW necessary for supplying on-board power to a rake of 20 double-deck coaches. The locomotive’s control system allows operating the pair by one crew from a single cabin.

The certificate tests of two TEP70BS (#317 and #318) have confirmed the specifications stated by the manufacturer.

By the end of the year, Transmashholding will ship eight new-generation locomotives to Russian Railways.

Having a power rate of 2942 kW (4000 hp), a speed target of 160 kph or 120 kph, and, for the first time in Russia, a central power supply for carriages, the new TEP70BS has a modular design. Its first version was built in 2002, with batch production beginning in 2006. The machine conforms to modern safety and sustainability requirements.

Class TEP70BS carry out passenger transportations at mainline railways in Russia, Lithuania, Belarus, and Uzbekistan.

JSC “Transmashholding” is the only rolling stock manufacturer in Russia, capable of producing a full line of diesel and electric locomotives for railroad operations – for any power, composition, type of current, and application requirements.
