Transmashholding ships 2TE25KM freight diesel locomotives to Mongolia

A batch of class 2TE25KM freight diesel locomotives left for Mongolia. Bryansk Engineering Plant (part of Transmashholding) built the three machines for Ulaanbaatar Railway.

The mainline freight locomotives 2TE25KM are the newest Russian diesel locomotives boasting advanced engineering solutions. Among the latter is a microprocessor control system that maximizes moving power for a given parameters.

The main advantage of the system is that it automates engine handling, allowing the driver to focus on other aspects of operating a train. The driver sets parameters of traction, and the system matches and manages loads on the diesel-generator, traction motors, compressors, cooling, and other accessories. The simplicity and ease of maintenance are also among key features, achieved through reachability and maintainability of main locomotive components.

To address the region’s climate, project’s terms of reference listed certain modifications to the diesel-generator, air filtering, and the high-voltage cabin. Measures were taken to improve overall sealing of electric components and the crew area against dust. Additional dust seals were installed on the bogies.

Ulaanbaatar Railway already operate two mainline freight diesel locomotives 2TE25KM made in Bryansk.

TMH invited Mongolian railmen to study design, rules of maintenance and repair procedures of the locomotives. Future users underwent courses in the manufacturer’s training center, using a simulator of 2TE25KM.

Transmashholding is the only manufacturer in Russia to produce a full line of tractive rolling stock, including electric and diesel locomotives of various power, unit configuration, purpose, and voltage.
