TMH started trials of new RA-3 rail buses

A rail bus RA-3, made by TMH in its Mytishi plant, was submitted for preliminary and certification trials.

The trials will be held at VNIIZT experimental test circuit in Scherbinka and will include a 5000 km run. The bus’s movement properties (average speed, ride quality, braking), efficiency of its climate control and other accessories, as well as rail track impact will be evaluated. Certification and acceptance trials will continue until the end of July 2019.

RA-3 rail bus is the newest product from TMH. Engineers designed its interior focusing on passenger’s comfort. Its cabins carry information displays with details about the trip, advanced video surveillance, and energy-saving lighting. Both passenger and driver areas have climate control with air purification. Compared to previous versions, the number of seats was increased. Head cars feature spots for passengers with disabilities, wheelchair lifts, and accessible bathrooms.

The main configuration of RA-3 is a three-car setup: two head motorized carriages and one trailer coach. The bus can also consist of two head motorized carriages. Two RA-3 can operate as a multiple, forming a rake of six cars. The bus can efficiently service passengers on intercity non-electrified routes with both low and high platforms, which significantly widens its area of use. The top speed of the train is 120 km\h.

In the years 2019-2020, TMH will manufacture for Central Exurban Passenger Company (“CPPK”) 17 RA-3 rail buses in the 2-car setup and six more in the three-car setup.
