Ep20 Locomotives Covered a Total Distance of 100 Million Kilometers

Class EP20 electric locomotives (Moscow-Sortirovochnaya Depot) manufactured at TMH Novocherkassk Plant(NEVZ) reached a milestone of 100 million kilometers of combined covered distance.

The maximum distance an EP20 covers in a single trip peaks at 1800 km. Its average daily run in 2019 amounted to 852 km, 43 km higher compared to 2018.

NEVZ produces EP20 locomotives since 2012, using parts and components from 20 regions of Russia. In the latter years, the manufacturerundergone substantial import substitution efforts for an array of critical components, which, among others, included traction and auxiliary converters, pneumatic current collecting gear, driver’s cabin, and sanitary modules.

With its IGBT asynchronous motors, EP20 is the first Russian electric locomotive to haul passenger trains on AC and DC lines at speeds of up to 200 km\h. Its technical solutions enable service intervals of 25000 km and overhaul intervals of 150000 km. Its module cab complies with modern safety, ergonomic, comfort, and aesthetic requirements and features a comprehensive microclimate system.
Most of its specifications match or surpass its international competition.

To this day, 72 Class EP20 were produced and shipped to the customers under life-cycle contracts, meaning that the manufacturer carries responsibility for the vehicles throughout their entire service life. The maintenance of all EP20 is carried out by the NEVZ Service Center in Moscow.

The locomotives service Moscow, Gorkovskaya, Oktyabrskaya, North-Caucasus, and South-Eastern Railways. They enable passenger routes between Moscow and Adler, Nizhny Novgorod, Saint-Petersburg, Anapa, Voronezh, Orsk, Kazan, Ekaterinburg, Minsk (Belarus), and Vainikkala (Finland).
