The 19-3116 hopper car is designed for bulk transportation of mineral fertilizers and sodium carbonate is loaded through roof hatches and unloaded at destination by gravity flow through hatches in the floor.

The 19-3116 hopper car has a breakthrough design of all-welded body with an oval cross-section. The body frame of the car does not have a carrier centre girder, which provides for an increased storage capacity of the bottom part of the body and for a lower centre of gravity of the car and allows discharging of cargo between the rails.

The improved shape of the car body's rounded sides allows for unhindered flow of the discharged cargo, which prevents corrosion and cargo sticking.

The novel design of the car body has brought the actual loading space to 97 %.

The following models have been developed based on the 19-3116 hopper car for bulk cargo:

  • 19-3116-01 model for grain transportation. The difference from the previous base model is the unloading mechanism design with the letter enabling measured unloading and a coating made of special materials approved by health agencies for contact with food products.
  • 19-3116-02 for alumina. The unloading hatches are smaller than those of the base version and set deeper to prevent spilling during transportation.
  • 19-3116-04 hopper car for fertilizers and sodium carbonate. It features an increased capacity and increased angle of end wall, which prevents load sticking and simplifies unloading.

Service life of the 19-3116, 19-3116-02, 19-3116-04 models is 26 years, of 19-3116-01 the model - 32 years.
